A very popular spot, which can change tremendously depending on the tides. At low tide and for three hours after, there can be good waves with strong winds from SW to NW. At high tide with the same winds, the bay is better for slalom sailing and beginners. In NE and E winds, there is a funnelling effect caused by the river valley at Ogmore. In E winds the water is choppier and more suitable for experienced sailors. Newton Bay itself is very safe for beginners and with shallow, flat waters and less waves than many other places along the same stretch of coast, this is definitely one of the better locations for learning.
